My career began after graduating from the University of Economy in Prague. My early role at the Centre for Regional Development as a financial manager allowed me to apply my academic knowledge to real-world scenarios, particularly in managing EU funds. I went on to ascend from junior positions to senior roles by demonstrating my commitment to professional development.
A pivotal moment came in 2012 when I qualified with ACCA, which paved the way for my career at the Ministry of Finance. Here, I was auditing EU funds, ensuring compliance and accuracy in annual reports to the European Commission. My expertise grew and for seven years I led a team of auditors, focusing on fisheries, finance mechanisms and migration funds.
The ability to contribute to the public wellbeing gives me a sense of purpose
My role at the Ministry of Finance has shaped my professional identity and established my considerable reputation in the field of auditing EU funds.
The Ministry of Finance is facing challenges in data analytics and the extraction of accurate data from our information systems. The finance function plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges by ensuring the integrity and reliability of data, using advanced analytical tools and methodologies. Our team identifies key trends, risks and opportunities, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the ministry’s operations.
I would recommend a career in the public sector if your aim is finding a good work-life balance. The fixed hours are an advantage, as are the holidays. I also get to combine my work with my interests, and this makes my job more fulfilling. Additionally, the ability to contribute to the public wellbeing and influence policy gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment that is hard to find in other sectors.
This is my favourite mantra: ‘At each end something new begins.’ This comes from a famous Czech film, ‘How poets wait for a miracle’, and epitomises my journey of navigating a path filled with challenges and triumphs.
What I like most is using diverse methods to overcome challenges
If I had law-making powers, I would enforce the verification of ownership with registries, not only for companies but for individuals as well. This would enhance transparency and accountability, ensuring that property and asset ownership financed from EU funds is clearly documented and verified.
What I like most about my job is using diverse methods to overcome challenges, often by finding creative solutions. Every day offers a new puzzle, whether it’s creating audit strategies or solving complex issues. My role also enables me to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are invaluable for my professional growth. It allows me to contribute meaningfully to the organisation and make a tangible impact on its success.
One of my biggest achievements was qualifying with ACCA, which laid the foundations of my career. I’m also proud of successfully reconstructing my home to meet low energy standards, showing my commitment to sustainability and innovation.
If I weren’t a qualified accountant, I would have pursued a career in architecture and project engineering. This field captivates me because it blends technical precision with creative vision, demanding a deep understanding of both structural integrity and aesthetic design.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active. Various fitness routines such as Nordic walking, yoga and cycling are some of the ways I like to keep in shape. I also love spending time outdoors walking with my dog, which adds a joyful element to my daily life.
