I began my educational and professional journey in Malaysia. From the age of 16, I had a clear direction: I knew I wanted to pursue the ACCA qualification, as I naturally gravitated towards accounting and consistently performed well in the subject. I continued my studies at a local college, where I completed both my diploma and advanced diploma.
During my time in college, I was actively involved in student societies and took on leadership roles that significantly shaped my confidence and interpersonal skills. As president of the Financial Accounting Society, I organised an ACCA conference designed to offer insights and guidance to people studying for the qualification. This not only strengthened my leadership capabilities but also deepened my appreciation for the profession and its community.
I find great fulfilment in uncovering the ‘why’ behind the numbers
My career began in external audit, where I was exposed to a variety of industries and worked closely with professionals across different functions. This early exposure helped build a strong technical foundation while also broadening my understanding of business operations and the strategic role finance plays in organisational success. Initially, I was drawn to the profession due to its structure and stability, but, over time, I came to truly value the impact finance can have on decision-making and long-term growth.
Today, I serve as a finance business partner at a multinational company, overseeing FP&A and business partnering activities. My role focuses on delivering insights that guide business priorities, highlight performance gaps and identify areas for improvement. I find great fulfilment in uncovering the ‘why’ behind the numbers and contributing to initiatives that drive sustainable growth, after all, data tells you what happened, insights tell you what to do next. Being part of a team that influences strategic decisions and supports business transformation is what motivates me every day.
It was about proving to myself that I had the strength to keep going
The ACCA qualification has played a pivotal role in my career – not just in building technical competence, but in shaping resilience and character. My journey was far from linear; I struggled with my final paper, failing it seven times before finally passing on my eighth attempt. That moment remains one of the proudest in my career – not because it was a technical milestone, but because it was a battle of perseverance. It wasn’t just about earning a certificate; it was about proving to myself that I had the strength to keep going, even when giving up would’ve been easier. It’s a chapter that continues to shape how I approach challenges, both professionally and personally.
I aspire to continue growing as a strategic finance leader, adding value not just through numbers but through meaningful collaboration and insight. Outside of my professional goals, I’m also passionate about mentoring and inspiring others, particularly young professionals navigating the early stages of their careers. I believe in the power of sharing experiences and giving back to the community that once supported me.
If I had not pursued accounting, I would likely be in a role centered around people, communication and impact, perhaps in education, coaching or public speaking. I’ve always found purpose in helping others grow and see new possibilities for themselves.
