Our interview this month is with Komal Altaf FCCA, CFO of Nestlé Pakistan, who took on the role in 2022, at a time of ‘unprecedented economic challenge’ for the country. Unfazed, Komal sees it as a chance to put to the test the skills and experience gathered in more than a decade with Nestlé that has seen her take on finance roles in Dubai, Switzerland and most recently the GCC and Levant. She highlights the importance of agility and resilience and having a growth mindset.
We also meet Abdulla Al-Jaidah FCCA, who is climbing high at Qatar Airways thanks to a talent for relationship building. Following a spell in Europe where he was closely involved in the success of a major finance centralisation initiative, he’s now back in Doha in a business partnering role, applying his talents in support of decision-making at the airline’s head office.
In the UAE, the government is on a mission to become a global business player, with accounting and auditing standards to match those of any developed country. We look at how auditors in the emirates are responding to recent regulatory rulings in support of audit quality.
In our careers section, we find out what toxic leadership does to an organisation and its staff. And to address workplace discrimination and poor corporate culture, we explain how to tackle perception bias.
As we head towards ACCA’s CPD deadline, don’t forget that ACCA’s annual virtual conference ‘Accounting for the Future’ offers free CPD units and is available on demand, as is our Virtual Public Sector Conference.
