I always wanted to serve my country and to contribute to its economic and social development. Working in the public sector allows me to do this by adding value to the civil service, and I love my job as a public servant. My role in government payroll is a tough task, but I greatly enjoy it as it gives me the opportunity to interact with people from different spheres of life, which has greatly extended my outreach.

Sierra Leone faces many challenges, including a vulnerability to global shocks. We have had two major health emergencies, with Ebola and Covid-19, which further aggravated economic instability and poverty. However, the government has made significant financial interventions and economic reforms, helping to stabilise inflation and tackle currency depreciation. Climate change is also an issue, with numerous damaging floods, mudslides and fires. These have had a negative impact on the country’s economic development, but the government has developed measures to reduce the effects.

If I had law-making powers, I would focus on the extractive industries

After eight years in the banking sector and having served as financial controller in one of the biggest banks in Sierra Leone, I left in 2015 to join the internal audit directorate of the Ministry of Finance. I went on to head the internal audit unit of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, then led a similar unit for the Ministry of Defence before joining the Accountant General’s Department in 2022.

If I had law-making powers, I would focus on the extractive industries, ensuring that minerals are processed into semi-finished goods before export, creating jobs and reducing currency depreciation. Companies would also have to reclaim land damaged by mining activities, create meaningful corporate social responsibility policies, and construct infrastructure connecting towns to mining sites.

A major achievement for me was obtaining my professional qualifications

While my family always comes first, a major achievement for me was obtaining my ACCA and certified internal auditor qualifications. I also greatly value my achievements in my current role. Accounting was my first choice of career and I have no regrets.

I love football and I am a die-hard Arsenal fan, though we have gone many seasons without lifting any trophies. I exercise frequently and enjoy running, aerobics and weightlifting. I listen to music a lot, and watch reality shows and news programmes, but my real love is movies, especially comic and adventure ones.
