Transitioning from a banking background in Afghanistan to the fund administration space in Ireland has been both challenging and fulfilling. It’s satisfying to see my contributions directly impact the performance and reputation of the clients we serve, while I am also growing professionally in a new regulatory and cultural environment. The opportunity to continuously learn and evolve in a dynamic and highly technical environment is something I find really rewarding.
I have found Irish work culture to be refreshingly open, supportive and inclusive. The emphasis on work-life balance, along with a collaborative and respectful approach to teamwork, has made my transition smoother. Living in Cork, I’ve also come to appreciate the friendly nature of the people and the beautiful surroundings, which contribute greatly to both professional and personal wellbeing.
Ireland is a strategically important location for our global operations
I am responsible for accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of alternative investment funds. I work closely with cross-functional teams including client relationship managers, depositary teams, compliance teams and external auditors, ensuring that client expectations are not only met but exceeded. My leadership is grounded in technical expertise, attention to detail and a collaborative approach, particularly when managing complex fund structures.
Alter Domus is a global provider of integrated solutions for the alternative investment industry. The company has a strong and growing presence in Ireland, with offices in Dublin and Cork. The Irish team plays a key role in servicing international clients, particularly in fund administration and accounting for alternative assets. Ireland’s reputation as a leading jurisdiction for funds makes it a strategically important location for Alter Domus’s global operations.
Internationally, the company has more than 5,100 employees across 23 jurisdictions. Our service offering includes fund administration, corporate services and capital market support. We work with some of the world’s largest asset managers, private equity firms, real estate investors and financial institutions.
Across our industry, one common thread is the ever-increasing demand for transparency and timely reporting from clients and regulators. At Alter Domus, we are addressing this by investing in technology, enhancing automation and streamlining workflows, while also focusing on upskilling staff and improving internal controls to ensure scalability and accuracy as client expectations evolve.
The ability to stay open-minded, embrace change and keep learning enables sustained growth
In my downtime, I enjoy exploring the Irish countryside and going for long nature walks. I’m also a big fan of watching gripping TV series with friends, especially those with deep storylines and strong characters. Whether it’s a peaceful solo walk or a night of drama on screen, I find that stepping away like this helps me recharge and come back sharper.
Adaptability and continuous learning are essential for long-term success. This is especially the case when transitioning between vastly different working cultures or organisational environments. Whether moving from an underdeveloped to a developed economy, or from a small, agile organisation to a large, structured institution, the ability to stay open-minded, embrace change and keep learning is what enables sustained growth. In today’s interconnected world, it’s not just technical skills that matter, but the mindset to evolve with your environment.
