Studying language and literature at university equipped me with strong communication skills and language proficiency. This led to my selection for the Europe migration team in global financial services at multinational Honeywell in Shanghai, where my primary responsibility was to engage with UK clients.

At university I came to realise that language, while essential, is ultimately a tool. I recognised the importance of acquiring a specialised skill set, and the ability to analyse financial statements became particularly appealing. I was drawn to finance because of its dynamic nature and its pivotal role in driving business success.

Earning the ACCA qualification was a pivotal step in my career. It not only deepened my technical expertise in finance and accounting but also provided invaluable practical experience. My first major career break came when I joined Intel China, where I was able to apply my skills in a real-world context and gain exposure to the complexities of financial operations. The global recognition and comprehensive training offered by ACCA have been instrumental in advancing my career and opening doors to new opportunities.

What I find most rewarding is making a meaningful impact on our clients’ journeys

I initially joined The Immigration People in Singapore as a business partner before transitioning to a full-time role as senior finance manager. I’m actively involved in client engagements, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving business development initiatives. What I find most rewarding is making a meaningful impact on our clients’ journeys and fostering a collaborative, high-performing work environment.

The migration services sector in Singapore and South-East Asia is rapidly evolving. We have to contend with frequent regulatory changes, managing increasingly complex client cases and staying ahead of technological advancements. The opportunity to serve a diverse, international clientele and contribute to regional mobility is both inspiring and rewarding.

My career has been shaped by mentors, colleagues and industry leaders who exemplify professionalism, resilience and ethical integrity – qualities that are essential for effective financial leadership. I’ve been particularly inspired by the finance manager at Intel, whose professional integrity, humility and kindness towards colleagues set a standard I strive to emulate. Additionally, the global ACCA community has been a continuous source of guidance and inspiration. Through participating in ACCA activities, I’ve benefited from the support and camaraderie of fellow members, whose resilience and willingness to help others have greatly enriched my professional journey.

I co-founded the ACCA Shanghai Toastmasters Club in 2017 with my dear friend Merry

I co-founded the ACCA Shanghai Toastmasters Club in 2017 with my dear friend Merry, who was then a finance manager at Bayer. I’ve been deeply inspired by her eloquence and dedication to building up the Toastmasters community, and I have greatly valued her friendship throughout this journey.

I enjoy jogging, playing table tennis and practising yoga. I also appreciate spending time in nature, particularly walking in parks, which is one of the main reasons I’m so fond of Singapore. The city’s abundant natural environment and greenery symbolise life and vitality, providing a refreshing and inspiring backdrop to daily life.

If I weren’t an accountant, I’d likely have pursued a career that combines analytical thinking with creativity, perhaps in education. The common thread would be a desire to solve problems and make a positive impact.
