This month, we spoke with Tracy Marshall FCCA, who is the managing partner for EY in Barbados – the only female Big Four managing partner on the island. As you will see, she loves competition in all its forms – whether in business or watching a La Liga game in Madrid, and this is what has driven her to excel in her chosen career. It is best summed up by her favourite quote, from Maya Angelou: ‘Nothing will work unless you do.’

We also look at the planned fiscal expansion in Germany, and what that might mean for finance professionals in practice. It appears that the new chancellor’s bid to become strategically independent from the US, at a cost of €1 trillion, could create a once-in-a-generation opportunity for advisory firms, which will play a pivotal role in execution and oversight.

Still in Europe, we also look at the impact on sustainability reporting following the publication of the EU’s ‘Omnibus’ proposals, which will see delays in the implementation of both the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. There will be exemptions, too, for smaller companies in both the CSRD and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Read about how the alphabet soup of environmental, social and governance reporting will change.

On the technical side, we have an analysis of the knock-on effects of shifts in corporate tax planning strategies that follow on from changes in corporate tax rates. Not only are these changes followed by income shifting, they also affect internal reporting behaviour when suddenly subsidiary companies find their profits either receive a boost or are cut. Read about the impact of income shifting.

Finally, if you are concerned about the future of work – and who isn’t in a time of social and political upheaval where almost everything can be done through artificial intelligence in all its guises? – then it is worth reading our special report on the seismic shift in roles, skillsets and expectations. Navigate the changing workplace.
