The transition to internal audit required a shift of mindset and an expansion of my skillset
After graduating from Multimedia University in Malaysia with a bachelor degree in accounting, I joined PwC Malaysia as an external auditor. I knew ACCA offered a path to becoming a chartered accountant, so I began with my ACCA papers on a part-time basis. After completing the ACCA qualification and fulfilling my practical experience requirements, I obtained the prestigious designation, which enhanced my professional standing and career prospects.
After four years as an external auditor, I made the transition to internal audit in 2012. I first worked for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. I then moved to Singapore in 2014, where I’ve held roles at BDO, PwC Singapore, real estate group CapitaLand and, since last year, SP Group.
This journey required a shift of mindset, an expansion of my skillset and the ability to collaborate closely with management. I’ve broadened my professional horizons, developed a deeper understanding of business processes and contributed a broader view to the organisations I serve.
ACCA’s global recognition has provided me with the opportunity to experience diverse business environments in various organisations. Many multinational corporations and global accounting firms actively seek ACCA professionals who can navigate international financial regulations, taxation systems and crossborder transactions.
