My decision to become an accountant was inspired by my dad. He realised that I was good at working with figures and then motivated me to have a career in banking or accounting, so I studied for a BSc in business administration at the University of Ghana Business School.
After graduation, I joined PwC Ghana as an associate and rose through the ranks to assistant manager, while self-studying for the ACCA Qualification. This brought me many opportunities, including promotion and leading the audit of major clients across many industries, as well as receiving the PwC Experience Award for being an exceptional mentor – one of the most prized achievements in my professional career.
In 2018, I joined Vlisco Ghana Cluster as a finance manager because I wanted a new challenge and the opportunity to pursue other interests. I have served as finance manager, then business and project controller, and recently I took on the role of acting finance director.
Our Facebook community offers free maternal and child health support
Outside my work, I founded a Facebook community: The PregPeds Support. The original intention was to offer free maternal and child health support with the help of professionals, including my husband, who is an army doctor. With time, we have expanded our scope to include other areas that affect the family and women in general. We have recorded many successes but the most significant is a fundraising project we undertook in December 2022 to pay the hospital bills of a number of children in Accra.
My current employer is a manufacturer and distributor of original, authentic African fabric prints in Ghana. The greatest challenge we face is unfair competition from the influx of imported imitation fabrics. The general increase in the cost of raw materials and energy makes it difficult to compete on price with these products, which are frequently smuggled into the country. However, the textiles industry has many opportunities for investors, including local production of cotton and grey cloth, and research into the dyestuff and chemicals used in production, as well as cheaper sources of energy.

If I had law-making powers, I would change the provisions in our 1992 constitution, which gives the executive too much power to appoint people to public service. This takes away the independence and professionalism from public servants as they end up serving the interests of their ‘master’ rather than the public.
I enjoy the daily challenges that come with my job, as well as the weekly brainstorming sessions with other heads of department. I learn a lot during these meetings, always gaining additional insights and experiences.
I believe my biggest career achievement is being nominated to lead the finance team at Vlisco Ghana Cluster. If I were not working in finance, I would probably have chosen a career in journalism or public relations.
In my spare time, I love to engage in fun activities with my kids. When I am not at home during the weekend, I am with them at the playground, waterpark or just hanging out.
