My career in accounting was inspired by my grandfather and mother, who were both in the profession and were my first mentors. A kitchen table full of documents, calculating machines and balance sheets was common during my childhood, as my mother taught me how accounting works. Attending the faculty of accounting at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest became the natural path to follow, with the foundation already built by my family.

My goal was to get a job as an auditor for a Big Four firm, which I achieved. Years of intense learning and hard work followed. Then I discovered the ACCA Qualification and how connected to reality it is. I fell in love with this qualification and knew it would always guide my career.

Now, training's all about digital learning and micro-learning, anytime and anywhere

I gained experience in audit and training but my passion for supporting people in their career goals drew me to my current role. My job allows me to combine the two things I love the most: accounting and people. I am now in the position of reshaping the learning and development landscape for KPMG professionals.

I have witnessed lots of changes in training since I’ve been in the profession. Twenty years ago, the norm was many days of scheduled classroom training and case studies involving pen and paper. Now, it’s all about digital learning and micro-learning, anytime and anywhere. We have personalised learning journeys, collaboration, responsive environments, job shadowing and coaching.

ACCA has offered me huge opportunities to grow and I wanted to give something back to the profession. I spent six years as a member of the International Assembly and for the past four years I have served as a member of the ACCA Global Council. This represented an extraordinary opportunity for me to actively participate in the development and promotion of the profession both nationally and internationally. I got to work with a group of very capable and diverse professionals who inspire passion and excellence through everything they do.

Romania enjoyed strong economic growth before the pandemic and there are already encouraging signs of a swift recovery

I blend my ACCA Global Council role with my work at KPMG, but it’s not always easy to handle. Finding a way to balance everything is key.

Romania is a country of natural beauty, with numerous attractions for the visitor. It has seen significant development in recent decades, particularly since EU accession in 2007. Romania enjoyed strong economic growth before the pandemic and there are already encouraging signs of a swift recovery. A highly trained labour force, abundant natural resources, geographical advantages that facilitate transportation of goods and one of the largest markets in Central and Eastern Europe make Romania an attractive destination for investment.

What I enjoy most about my job is being able to shape people’s careers and accompany them in their learning journey

However, legislation can change frequently, and the economic situation needs to be monitored closely. The country also faces important demographic challenges, with an aging population and a negative rate of natural increase.

If I had law-making powers, I would have legislation that enabled every person, from children to adults of all ages, to have access to free quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

If I weren’t an accountant, I would have probably managed my own business in the travel and leisure industry. When I’m not at work, I am passionate about travelling the world, discovering new places and cultures with my husband and daughter.
