As Hong Kong is one of the leading international financial centres in the world, I chose to study business administration in preparation for entering the competitive business world.

Accounting was one of the core subjects during my first year of university. The more I learned, the more I found it was a very technical and practical subject, and I then decided to concentrate on accounting in year two.

I believe that those thinking of pursuing their career should get to know themselves better

My job includes supervising and monitoring the audit team’s activities, and I also have the ultimate responsibility for signing off on audit reports. I also serve as the co-head of financial services audit and my duties include business development, organising training, updating my industry knowledge and upholding our quality of work and services.

Both the accounting and auditing professions have evolved to become a vital part of the governance process. However, this increases the workload and means longer working hours, which demotivates new joiners and is creating a manpower shortage in the profession.

Hiring and retaining talent is a continuous challenge. The encouragement of work-life balance could help to improve the situation, while advanced information technology helps improve productivity.

I believe that those thinking of pursuing their career should get to know themselves better. They should continue equipping themselves, be lifelong learners and have a positive attitude no matter what situation they encounter.

Additionally, they should treasure every relationship and venture outside their comfort zones.

Always be clear about career goals, keep them in mind and go for it!
