The boundary between finance functions and the rest of the business has blurred, in particular over the last year. The world has changed and uncertainties will remain. Planning for the short term and staying flexible are as important as planning for the longer term.
What I like about my current job is that in the process of discovering companies that fit our investment criteria, I have opportunities to meet many promising entrepreneurs. I am able to study their cutting-edge technologies, witness their growth to create great companies and, more importantly, provide my advice and insights from a finance perspective.
What I value most is to always be curious about and ready to learn new things
I started my career as a consultant with the risk advisory department at Deloitte China, where I engaged in internal audit-related consulting services for clients in various industries. Then, I transferred to the financial advisory services department and focused on providing financial due diligence and mergers and acquisitions transaction services for both private equity funds and corporate clients.
I co-founded Ivypine Capital, a venture investment fund, in 2017. I am responsible for the day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including overseeing all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems, as well as liaising with stakeholders such as regulatory bodies, investors and the companies we invest in.
I also oversee the investment due diligence team, which involves due diligence work on our potential target companies.
My company invests in various industries, including education, clean energy automobiles and telecommunications. This requires a thorough study of the industries, companies and trends that are always evolving. I have to keep learning and absorb the most up-to-date knowledge.
I truly believe that ACCA's curriculum, including the Ethics and Professional Skills and Strategic Business Leader modules, reflects the evolving needs of the profession.
From my personal experience, what I value most is to gradually build up a framework for problem-solving and logical thinking, and to always be curious about and ready to learn new things.
